For Big Girls and Boys

CHIEFS AND BRAVES “QO here hath been dawning another blue day” and a new u Wednesday is slipping through the hour-glass. There’s an old rhyme that runs, “Monday: health, Tuesday: wealth, Wednesday: best day of all. ...” I am inclined to believe this, for, according to some of my young Chiefs and Braves, Wednesday is really the only day in the week, for it is then that we meet and exchange greetings and confidences under our stout old Totem-Pole. A man from the land of the Pale Pace asked the other day for the exact dimensions of the Totem-Pole—as though it could be measured in feet and inches. lie left with the knowledge that the Totem-Pole is as wide as the seven seas and so tall that the clouds know its topmost reaches; and yet of such magic that a Great Chief can carry every name inscribed on it safely in his heart. These are the correct measurements of ever}' good Totem-Pole. To-day is the closing date of our Essay and Pen-name Competition and the results, with the prize-winning entries, will be published next week. Some clever pens are plying in the service of the Wigwam. In another column is an article by Chief Beaver Hunter, and I should like you all to read this. He has a fine style and a wide command of words. In the Guides’ Corner there are some samples of the letters written by the Braves of the Navv-clad Sisterhood, many of whom have talent that steals willy-nilly into every sentence they write. Among the new Chiefs and Braves we have Silver Ripple, Glistening Water, Smoke Plume, Crested Wave, Silent Warrior, Grey Wolf, Canoe Builder, Rising Torrent, Blue Morning and many others. Who can single out the Chiefs and the Braves? Your fraternal, REDFEATHER.
