RUGBY REFEREES
WEEKLY MEETING The weekly meeting of the Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association was held last evening, Mr. F. E. Sutherland presiding over a large muster of members. Mr. Jack Williams, the well-known inter-provincial referee, was welcomed and admitted to the membership of the local association. An invitation was received from the Pukekohe Referees’ Association for the president or a member of the local association to attend a dinner on Thursday evening and later to lecture on the rules of the game. Mr. Sutherland, advising that it was convenient for him to attend, was unanimously requested to be present. It was decided that as several teams lately had not supplied the referee with the official team-slips, the referees in future will not take the field and officiate, until the official team-slips, which have been supplied to the clubs by the union, are handed to the referee personally by the captains of the teams.
A motion of condolence with Mr. Ha .ter, a local referee who has just lost his wife, was passed.
