DOMINION ROAD FIRE

DANCE ENDS ABRUPTLY, BRIGADE’S PROMPT WORK Fire completely destroyed the interior of an unoccupied house at the corner of Rocklands and Dominion Roads at about 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. The house is owned by Mr. William Bodley, of Mt. Eden, and has been vacant for over three months. The origin of the outbreak is not known. At the time that the fire was first discovered, the theatre-going residents of the district were just returning home, and there was soon a big crowd. A dance that was in progress in a nearby hall came to an abrupt end as the dancers did not not feel too comfortable and preferred to see that the firemen did their job properly. The Mount Eden Fire Brigade answered the call, and by prompt action managed to prevent the building from being reduced to ashes. The interioi is very badly burnt. The insurances on the building are not available.
