TAURANGA HARBOUR
QUESTION OF DUES THE FARMERS PROTEST (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, To-day. At the last meeting of the Tauranga branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Air. W. E. Bennett brought up the question of Harbour Board fees and contended that they were in excess of what was required to carry on the affairs of the board. He stated that it had accumulated a credit fund of £14,000. These dues were pressing heavily upon the settlers. Other branches were taking the matter up with a view of asking the board to reduce the charges. It was resolved: “That delegates from the various branches of the Farmers' Union form a deputation to wait on the Harbour Board at its next meeting asking for a reduction in the harbour dues.”
