LORRY HITS VERANDAH

POSTS CARRIED AWAY CRASH IN HOBSON STREET The slumbers of a number of Hobson Street residents were rudely disturbed in the early hours of this morning. The cause of the disturbance was that a motor-lorry had tried conclusions with the verandah post of Mr. W. G. Kruse’s shop, at the corner of Hobson and Cook Streets. The lorry was turning into Hobson Street. Two cast-iron posts on the Hobson Street frontage were carried away, bringing the verandah down on the lorry. Some of the beams in fall- ! ing struck a wall, shattering a plate- ! glass window about 6ft. square, and smashing some smaller panes in the i shop window. After the motor-lorry had been pulled out of the debris it was able to 1 drive away under its own power.
