STRANDED AND REFLOATED

SCOW SCOT AT WAIPU MOUTH As the auxiliary scow Scot was crossing the bar at the mouth of the Waipu River on Friday evening last, her rudder chain broke and she went ashore. The boisterous weather that night drove her further on to the beach and filled the vessel with water. The crew, however, landed safely and camped near by to wait a favourable opportunity of refloating her. Messrs A. G. Frankham and Company, the local agents for the Scot, advises that the vessel was successfully refloated this morning and is believed to have proceeded up the Waipu River. The Scot was built in Auckland in 1905 and has a gross tonnage of 26 tons. She is fitted with a 16 h.p. oil engine and has been engaged regularly in the trade between Auckland and Waipu, taking general cargo from Auckland, and returning with sand.
