“BUY FROM BUYERS"

COMMONSENSE TRADE SLOGAN TIP FROM THE ARGENTINE (From Our Resident ReporterJ WELLINGTON, Thursday. Patriotic trade slogans are popular; and people are advised on envelopes, in periodicals, and by electric sign, to “Buy British,” to “Know New Zealand First,” and to “Support Local Industry.” One of the most conimonsense slogans that could be imagined—and one which embraces all patriotic motives—comes from the Argentine, where the Rural Society, which corresponds to the Royal Agricultural Society in New Zealand, has advised its people to “Buy from whom buys from us.” The adoption of this slogan in the words of the society’s president, was due to the fact that “the protectionist tendencies with which almost all the countries of the world are experimenting in the development of tneir international economic policies, obliges us, if we do not wish to become impoverished in a short time, to take measures that will stimulate the exportation of our products by securing the markets we already have and obtaining of others, by means of a commercial policy of reciprocity, which would favour the placing of articles from countries which buy our products and which at the same time place obstacles in the w*ay of merchandise which comes from countries that do not buy from us. “The Argentine Rural Society has synthesised this international commercial policy in the just and equitable doctrine which is condensed in the motto: “Buy from whom buys from us.”
