EVENING
There’s a lustrous glow in the western sky, A golden glow of light; And the birds sing softly a lullaby, To herald the coming night. On a hawthorn bush with its berries red A blackbird sings his lay, And the violet bows her small sweet head, Glad for the close of day. Soon will come night on silent wing, Soon she will pass her way, And the sun shine forth and the birds all sing To welcome another day. —Jean Mclndoe (aged 12).
