GLORIOUS NEW ZEALAND
OUR FILMS ABROAD Cinematograph film is being sent regularly to Australia and England by the New Zealand Government in programmes for release on the public circuit—six copies to Australia, four to England and two for New Zealand are released weekly. The yearly output from the laboratory exceeds half a million feet. The first release of New Zealand films in America will be made very shortly. This very important concession has been made by the American distributors after negotiation by the Publicity Office. The value of this means of advertising is difficult to estimate when it is realised that one theatre in New York where our films will be screened accommodates over 40,000 persons weekly. This service has been given without charge to the office, purely on account of the entertainment value of the films, and the quality of the pictures. To come nearer home, the value of the film is seen when one of the publicity films was witnessed in Wellington by 21,000 persons in a fortnight. In addition to this method of display films are loaned to special persons for use during tours of America, Australia and England. The office is now engaged on the preparation of a film to advertise the meat industry throughout the British Isles, and has in view the production of a feature film on similar lines to “Glorious New Zealand,” for showing throughout the world. During the year a film depicting sword-fishing in New Zealand was released, and will do much to advertise the sport in* the countries in which it is shown.
