XX OW many girls, from all parts of the world, have gene to Hollywood and returned a isappoi nted ? The difficulty has been that they have never had an opportunity of demonstrating their talent. There was no Open Sesame for them.
But. with “Miss New Zealand 1927” it will be different. A definite engagement is awaiting her at Hollywood. Che will be given full opportunity to display her gifts. Every facility will be available to New Zealand’s fairest daughter. Not only will her expenses be paid to and from America, but the same provision is made for the chaperon of “Miss New Zealand 1927.” To read of the appreciation and gifts that are to be showered upon the winner of the “Miss New Zealand 1927” competition seems almost like a fairy story. “Miss New Zealand 1927” will be given a trip to the United States, accompanied by a chaperon. All expenses will be paid and first-class accommodation arranged throughout and return to New Zealand. A wellchosen wardrobe and liberal pocketmoney will also be provided. TO LEARN TECHNIQUE Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, of Culver City, one of the leading organisations in California and the United States generally, will afford “Miss New Zealand 1927” an opportunity to learn the technique of the art of acting for the camera, should she prove suitable A definite engagement will be offered to this lucky girl to appear in a feature film, at a salary of £25 per week
Eight semi-finalists be chosen in Auckland as in other centres, voted for by our daily readers, per a daily voting coupon, the girl at the top of the poll to become “Miss Auckland” and to receive £3O, while her runnerup will receive £2O.
These girls will tour New Zealand, visiting the five centres, and spread over four weeks, spend time in the larger towns of the Dominion. All expenses will be paid, first-class throughout, and £3 per week pocket-money supplied. The girls will be in the charge of a chaperon. Other semifinalists may be invited to appear at a prominent city theatre and receive for their appearance £ 5 per week. If from the country, their hotel and travelling expenses will be paid also. If “Miss New Zealand 1927” should arrive at a convenient date she will take part in the famous Beauty Pageant at Atlantic City. It is the duty of every beautiful and intelligent New Zealand girl to compete for this competition. The judges intend that the contest shall be thoroughly representative and worthy of a country with the reputation enjoyed by the Dominion. The status of the contest can be gauged by the fact that when the winner arrives in California she will be tendered a civic reception by the Mayor and citizens of Culver City.
