What’s a Pommy?
Mr. Singer Explains BENCH SEEKS ENLIGHTENMENT “What’s a po_ ny?” asked His Honour Mr. Ju6tiee .Herdman when the word cropped up in a divorce case at the Supreme Court yesterday. Mr. Singer proceeded to enlighten His Honour. “It’s a word used to designate sons of the Mother Country who have recently arrived at these shores,’* he stated. “I saw it in a paper for the first time the other day,” remarked His Honour. He added that he could not see where the word came from. “Pommy," he said, “is hardly synonymous with the explanation given by Mr. Singer." “Perhaps it has come about through the use of the word ‘homey,’" suggested Mr. Leary. His Honour concurred.
