THERE IS A LIMIT.
GROWING TYRE LIFE. Why hasn’t some one invented a pneumatic tyre with wearing qualities equivalent to the durability of other parts of a car? This is what the Dunlop “Bulletin” lias to say about this pertinent question : “The public would naturally hail with delight a tyre that would last as long as the car on which it was mounted, and the inventor would discover a goldmine, but this product has not appeared, and probably never will. “In aiming at this Utopian goal, tyre manufacturers have produced pneumatic tyres for motor-cars which occasionally have given more than 50,000 miles of service. “To-day, the average motorist, who drives with careful regard to the welfare of his tyres, very frequently* gets over 20,000 miles of wear from a tyre and 30,000 miles is no extraordinary record. “Nobody knows definitely the average life of automobile tyres, but everybody knows that, before the war, the average ty*re was good for less than half the mileage of present-day tyres. “To-day, the average tyre mileage is estimated at 10,000 to 12,000 miles, and the record is still increasing.”
