A MONTH’S GRACE

UNWANTED CHINESE A somewhat peculiar position arose over Ng Young On. a young Chinese who was fined .£SO, or six months, and ordered to be deported, some weeks ago. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson applied for a rehearing, and the case came up again to-day before Mr. F. K. Hunt. S.M. Had the oriental, who came into New Zealand on a permit, been imprisoned. the Government would have had to pay his passage back to his much-disturbed homeland. As it is. the Collector of Customs agreeing, Ng Young On will be allowed to remain in the Dominion for another month on condition that he pays a € 5 fine, and that bonds for £2OO will be forthcoming to answer that he will leave the country at the end of that time.
