PAPAKURA ORPHANS
OPENING OF SESSION (From Our Own. Correspondent.') FAPAKURA, To-day. The Papakura Orphan’s Club commenced their session last evening. The attendance was a record, nearly 150 being present. The president, Bro. W. C. Wood, occupied the chair. Several members of the Auckland Orphans’ Club were the official guests of the evening. Visitors were also present from the following clubs:—Onehunga, Otahuhu, Pukekohe, Devonport, and Takapuna. A programme of exceptional merit was contributed by members of the Auckland Club, and greatly appreciated by the large gathering. The outstanding feature of the evening’s entertainment, however, was the bright swinging melodies of a popular type rendered by the Papakura Orchestra, under their new leader, Bro. Hardman. The enthusiasm with which every item was received was remarkable. In each case they received double encores.
The president, Bro. 'Wood, extended • hearty welcome to all visiting brethren, Bro. Hutchinson of the Auckland Club, and Bro. King of the Devonport Club, suitably replying.
