PERSONAL. — : Captain C. J. Hackworth is now in command of the Kamo, Captain J. Mac Lean having been invalided ashore at Dunedin.

Mr. G. W. Kent, chief officer of the Kaimanawa, has come ashore at Auckland sick, and Mr. A. M. Lucas, chief officer of the Kaikorai, has been taken ashore ill at Newcastle. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Superintendent of Mercantile Marine advises that a -dredger is working between piles Nos. 16 and 19, near St. Leonards, Otago harbour, and, when passing the dredger, a vessel’s speed must be reduced and the usual precautions taken.

PORT DARWIN DEPARTS.— Bound for London via Montevideo, the C. and D. Line steamer Port Darwin left Port Chalmers at noon yesterday.

TOFUA LEAVES SUVA.— Cable advice received by the Union Company states that the Tofua left Suva at 7 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, where she is due on Monday next, May 16. HURUNUI GONE.— A departure for Napier at midnight last night was the N.Z. Shipping Company’s steamer Hurunui for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, Manchester and Liverpool, via Panama.

PORT ALBANY AT LONDON. A cable message to the C. and D. Line states that the Port Albany arrived at London on Tuesday morning from Lyttelton. The vessel sailed from Lyttelton on March 29. MELBOURNE STE AM E R—According to cabled advice the Union Company’s Moeraki left Melbourne yesterday for Wellington, where she is due next Thursday. She sails from Wellington the following day for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and Melbourne.

FROM PACIFIC COAST. With cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney, the Union Company s Waiotapu is due here about Friday next from San Francisco. SUSSEX DUE SUNDAY. The Union Company advises that the Federal steamer Sussex, now en route from Calcutta via ports, is due at Auckland on Sunday, and after discharge here proceeds to Wellington, U> ttelton, and Dunedin to complete. KAITUNA COMING. —En route from South Australia and Melbourne, the Union Company advises that the Kaituna left Hobart at 10 p.m. last Tuesday for Bluff. KAIAPOI TO LOAD.—T he Union Company advises that the Kaiapoi is due at Geelong 1 on Monday next and at Adelaide about May 23. She is expected to load at Edithburg about he last week in May, and will complete at Melbourne and possibly Hobart for Auckland.

TONGARIRO TO LOAD.— The N.Z. Shipping Company advises that the steamer Tongariro now leaves Wellington to-morrow for Oamaru, where she commences Homeward loading. FREIGHTS AND PASSAGES REDUCED.—The Northern Company advises that from and after Monday next freight on motor-cars and passages to and from Thames will be reduced.

HiNEMOA SAlLS.— Messrs. Spedding, .Limited, advises that the Government steamer Minemoa, which left Auckland last evening for Niue Island, is due here on May 19 and returns to Auckland on May 26. She sails from here again the following day lor .Norfolk Island.

MAHIA LEAVES MONT EVI D EO.— According to a cabled message received by the Shaw, Savili and Albion Company, the M'ahia left Montevideo on Monday for London. The vessel sailed from Wellington on April 20 tor London, via Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro.

THE CANADIAN PIONEER.--Cabled news has been received by the Canadian Government Agency that the Canadian Pioneer arrived at Panama on May 5 from Halifax', en route to New Zealand ports. The vessel sailed again on May 6 for Auckland.

HERTFORD AT NAPIER.— Now at Napier the N.Z. Shipping Company advises that the Pederai steamer Hertford leaves to-morro\v tor Wellington, where she completes loading and finally sails on May 19 lor Lonuon Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool

NORFOLK TO COMPLETE.— To complete loading the N.Z. Shipping Company advises that the Norfolk leaves Lyttelton to-morow for Wellington and Auckland. She is due here on May 20 and sails finally on May 28 for New York, Boston and West of England ports, via Panama. PORT HARDY FROM HOME.— The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hardy, which is due at Auckland on Monday from London, has passengers and mails for Auckland and cargo for discharge here and at Port Chalmers and New Plymouth. Kitchen is acting as surgeon for the voyage. The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Company are the local agents. KAIWARRA FROM NEWCASTLE. —The Union Company’s steamer Kaiwarra (Captain H. Wyborn) arrived at Auckland this morning with a full cargo of coal from Newcastle. The vessel left Australia last Saturday, May 8, and encountered the stormy weather which interfered with all shipping. The ship, which is loaded to capacity, was forced to reduce her speed to knots in face of a strong east-south-easterly gale, and heavy seas. Although she shipped much water, no damage was done and normal speed was resumed when the storm abated. The Kaiwarra is expected to complete the discharge of her cargo about Wednesday next, and then proceeds to Onerahi and Whangaroa to load timber for Sydney.
