SPRING FLOWERS FOR ALBERT PARK
GIANT COLOUR SCHEME GARDENERS PREPARING Think of anemones, all blooming at once. Then think of 8,000 ranunculi, also all blooming at once. Add to this beds of brilliant blue irises, lifting proud heads above carpets of little yellow* cape hyacinths and transfer the whole colour scheme to Albert Park. Already the gardeners are preparing for the advent of spring and summer, and in about a fortnight the planting will begin in Albert Park. This year it will be a blaze of colour, which will leave the rainbow a drab, uninteresting sight. The ranunculi will be planted along the border which separates the park from Princes Street, and the anemones will decorate the surrounding beds and borders. The four flow*er beds which surround the fountain will be planted with 1,609 stocks of various colours. Soon the dahlias and the scarlet salvia will be removed from their beds and the bulbs and spring plants placed there instead. Just now the gardeners are busy potting plants which later wilt be transferred to their spring and summer quarters, delighting the eye of every passer-by and making Albert Park a blaze of colour and the pride of Auckland.
