MINING NEWS

ALEXANDER MIN ES.— No. 2 level north: The drive has been on stone averaging 4ft 6in in width for the distance driven. The face shows the reef to be 6ft wide in the back and 3ft in the bottom and has the appearance of continuing some distance further. Mullocky Creek: A commencement has been made to drive a level on the south side of Mullocky Creek. The stone where exposed was Din wide and four samples taken assayed an average of over 12dwts per ton. Since commencing work this stone has opened out to ISin wide.

GOLDEN AGE.—Reporting for the week ending May 10, the manager states:

“The rise on the footwall of the Golden Age mine has been put up a further distance of sft. for the week, and is heavily mineralised. We intend opening out on a reef 60ft. ahead of the rise, which, according to surveyor, may prove to be the No. 1 reef which is giving such good results in the Lucky Shot mine.”

LUCKY SHOT.—Reporting for the week ending May 10, the manager advises: “A distance of Sft. has been driven for the week on No. 1 reef going north-east, making a total distance of 27ft. The reef in this face is about 3ft. in width, and showed gold freely when broken down. The winze on No. 3 reef has been sunk a further distance of Sft. for the week Very little quartz has been broken down since my last report, as the reef has jumped into the hanging wall. Driving south on No. 2 reef, a break has come across the face and has displace the reef a little. The country incased in the reef here is everything that could be desired and we except it to make good value when it geU Lack on its true course again.”
