Greater Wellington To Control Hutt?

HILL LAND ENDOWMENT WATER BOARD LATER v (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON. To-day. The handing over of the big area of land in the Hutt Valley by the Forestry Department to local authorities of the city and subur’ 3, for use as a source of a future water supply and the fact that later a water board probably will be formed to control the supply for the whole Hutt Valley, is regarded as a definite step towards a Greater Wellington scheme. The city council is now holding the land in trust for the other bodies.. . »:i The Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister of Forestry, says that although the forestry endowment was handed over the city council is expected to do a certain amount of tree-planting annually on the land for the relief of unemployment, much of the reserve being suitable for this. Even a small portion, say £SOO yearly, would be an indication of willingness to carry out the State’s desires. Provision for this probably will be made in the Act, which is necessary before the scheme is finalised.
