“THE BEST PEOPLE”

A HILARIOUS COMEDY “The Best People,” it is claimed, will live up to their good name when they make their first appeaarnce in His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday even*

ing for a season of six nights and one matinee under the direction of Mr. E. J. Carroll. The playwrights, Messrs David James and Avery Hopwood have blended impudence and epigrams in delightful fashion and the triumph of youth is

symbolical of every country where jazz has taken the place of “The Maiden’s Prayer.” “The Best People” might belong to any country in the world foi* they are a cosmopolitan product of the earth and the lack of responsibility which apparently goes with it. But in this version of the story of the conflict between parents and children, the parents are wealthier than usual and the children more headstrong and troublesome. Moreover, the story is related with so much freshness, charm, and humour that it possesses all the appeal of originality, and although the authors have palpably no other desire than to construct an amusing comedy they have, by satirising the crassness and obstuseness of their wealthy parents, and the borishness and bad behaviour of their badly brought up children, done more than raise a laugh at their expense, and they have succeeded in furnishing a cogent moral. This play is entirely different to any ever given to the stage and it is con fidently claimed that the company selected by Mr. Carroll is the finest ever sent to New Zealand. Each member of the company has been selected according to type, and the following artists will make their first appearance: Mr. Robert Adams, Miss Marian Lord, Mr. William Macauley, Miss Helen Audiffred, Mr. J. B. Rowe, Miss Marion Sterly, Mr. Dick Ehlers, in association with Miss Beatrice Day, Miss Eileen Morris. Mr. Lane-Baykiff, Mr Reginald Collins. The box plans for the six nights and one matinee are now open at lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd
