BATSMEN BENEFIT!
USE OF SMALLER BALL COMMENT OF CRICKETERS By Cable.—Press Association.-—Copyright Reed. 11.55 p.m. LONDON, Wed. In view of the heavy scoring following the introduction of the smaller ball cricketers freely offer the opinion that the change helps the batsman, though hard wickets and perfect weather thus far have prevented the ball being pitched nearer the outside stumps without hitting them. It gives none of the former opportunities'for slip catches off the edge of the bat. It is alleged that the difficulty of hitting a smaller object is not worth considering.—Sun. CONGRATULATIONS FROM N.Z. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. At the conclusion of the first match Mr. D. Reese, chairman of the Cricket Council, sent a cable of congratulation to the New Zealand team, congratulating the players and wishing them further success.
