A CURIOUS RESIGNATION
“Dear Sir, —Owing to the prevailing economic depression, which is causing grief and pain to many worthy and unworthy citizens, I feel constrained to restrict my expenditure to the bare necessities of life, in order to postpone as long as possible becoming in the position of the unfortunate Australian, who, when turkeys were fourpence a dozen, could not afford to buy a tomtit s parson s nose. So herewith I reluctantly tender my resignation from the club. ’ —Resignation of a member from the Devonport Orphan’s Club
