LAND VALUES
ON THE HIGH SIDE ADVANTAGE WITH NORTH (From, Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. Mr. G. W. Richards, lately a successful land salesman for the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-operative, and now farming €OO acres at Otorohanga, is in Whangarei, he having been appointed chairman of the Valuation Board for his district, which extends practically from Rotorua to the North. It is now some 13 years since Mr. Richards left this district, and he is greatly struck with the immense strides that have been made in the interval.
During the war period, Mr. Richards, who was then resident in Hamilton, was a member, for over three years, of the Land Purchase Board, and it is, no doubt, from the experience then gained as to his knowledge of the value of land and his judgment in calculating its producing value, that he received the appointment he now holds. In view of the comparative high prices of what the farmer purchases, as compared with the prices received for his products, and the high charges which these have to bear, Mr. Richards considers, generally speaking, that the unimproved value of land is on the high side, although he does not think that this applies so much to the North as in other districts.
After some weeks in the Dargavillc side, in the vicinity of Donnelly’s Crossing, the Valuation Board, which comprises three members, including the local valuer, Mr. Blackburn, will return to Whangarei.
