DELAY RESENTED
SELECTION OF COMMITTEES WAITING FOR ELECTION (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. Disapproval of the delay between the time the new council was elected and the first meeting was voiced by Councillor Spinley at Monday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council. He stated that the Mayor was only waiting to see which candidate was elected at the by-election. He moved that the committees be set up forthwith, so as to get on with the work. The Mayor stated that there had not been much “delay. There could not be more than three councillors on each committee, and to get the best choice it was not wise to declare them now. The Mayor, after further discussion, refused to accept Councillor Spinley’s motion, stating that it was out of order. Councillor Spinley: I must bow to your ruling, but I strongly object to your attitude. The Mayor: You can object, but that is my ruling. I granted you permission to say a few words about committees, but I had no idea you were going to move such a motion. We will proceed with the next business. Councillor Spinley stated ‘that he wanted the councillors to make a visit of inspection to the waterworks at as early a date as possible. Further, he wanted to discuss the question of lighting the town clock. The Mayor said these matters could be discussed, but he did not want the committees and the deputy-mayor appointed until a full council was elected.
