Wellington's Water Supply Assured
BIG GOVERNMENT GRANT
80,000 ACRES HILL LAND Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The Government has agreed to vest in the city an area of 80,000 acres of hill land at the sources of the Hutt and Akatarawa Rivers to conserve the future water supply of the city and ensure provision of water as Wellington enlarges. An area of 1,800 acres in private lands will be bought and the corporation has sufficient funds in hand without borrowing. Much of the area is bush, out of which it is proposed to obtain some revenue by careful cutting without damaging the young growth. Areas already cleared will be replanted.
