FARMERS’ UNION
NEW BRANCH FORMED MEETING AT TE AWAMUTU (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. Considerable interest was shown at a meeting of farmers held at Te Awamutu on Saturday to form a branch of the Farmers’ Union and to appoint delegates to the Provincial conference to be held at Whangarei on May 24. Mr. R. H. Feist, Cambridge, a member of the Provincial Executive, urged farmers to form a branch and hold meetings. Most of the resignations from the union were because members did not fully realise the importance of unity. The political issue at last general election was not so much the cause of dissension in the Farmers’ Union as was the dairy control issue. He believed a majority of farmers favoured control, which he believed was necessary. There was abundant proof of the need for unity among farmers. It was unanimously decided to form a Te Awamutu branch. Mr. Wynyard was elected president, Messrs. R. w. Simson and Wallace Hodgson vicepresidents. The executive committee comprises Messrs. S. H. West, H. C. Frost, A. Hanna, G. S. Clarke, C. A. Crook and Jas. Millen, with power to add to a total of 13; secretary, Mr. Wallace Hodgson; auditor, Mr. O. Jourdain; delegates to Auckland Provincial Executive, Messrs. R. W. Simson and J. G. Wynyard. It was decided to affiliate with the Waikato Sub-provincial Executive.
