THE GREENLAND SERVICE.— The Copenhagen Floating Dock and Shipyard, Copenhagen, ran successful trials in the Sound in March, with the new Diesel motor-vessel, Disko, built to the order of the Danish Government and intended for passenger and cargo trade between Copenhagen and the colonies of Greenland. With the taking over of the Disko the Government trade on Greenland enters a new era in that the old barques which were previously employed on the service have been withdrawn and will in all probability be broken up. Moreover, the building of the Disko is noteworthy because she is the first Diesel motor-vessel to be owned by the Danish Government. MINING NEWS ALBURNIA: The manager reports as follows: “Driving north has been continued on the footwall branch of the Orlando reef. The distance driven for the week was 7ft. making a. total distance of I.GOSft. from the Entrance. This leader has slightly increased in size, its width now being nine to ten inches. Better values are also showing in the ore broken. The leaders I previously mentioned are gradually coming a little closer to the reef and should they junction we are hoping for still better values. Western Crosscut: A further 10ft has been advanced, making a total distance of 121 ft from the main level. There is nothing fresh to report in this face. Intermediate Level: The stope has been carried south a further Sft making the length of the stope a total of 28ft. While breaking down yesterday the reef showed a width of lSin, a good deal of the stone showed strong colours and dabs of gold, and a little of the stone selected was fairly rich. I am pleased to say that the reef never looked better and we are expecting that still better values may be met with at any time."
