DISASTER FOLLOWS DISASTER
CYCLONES IN STA TES
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 8.6 a.m. NEW YORK, Monday. Cyclonic winds, rains and storms swept sections of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, lowa and Colorado, taking 50 lives and injuring 300. Twisting winds demolished many farm houses and uprooted thousands of trees. The towns most seriously hit are Garland and Nevada, Texas. Property damage at present is estimated at 1,400,000 dollars. The Red Cross Society, which is already burdened with flood relief work, has been called upon to render assistance to the victims. The New Orleans flood crisis in the Mississippi floods is expected on Wednesday, when the engineers fear that the levee will break at Brig Bend. They are doing everything to reinforce the protective works, but the chance of averting the break is not good. Red Cross relief subscriptions now total 750,000 dollars. The hurricane was accompanied by cloudbursts, which demolished 800 houses and further raised the already swollen streams. Snowstorms have crippled communications in some districts in the western parts of the States.—A. and N.Z.
