RAILWAY REUNION
LARGELY-ATTENDED FUNCTION i The annual reunion of tlie A jcklanc g Branch of the New Zealand Railway t Officers’ Institute was held in the Chamber of Commerce hall on Saturday evening. Mr. N. E. Whisker _ chairman of the branch, presided ove' * a large attendance of members an( c superannuated members. There wen 0 also present: Mr. A. Harris, IIJP. for # Waitemata; Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. tor 1 Manukau; Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent for North Island railways; and Mr. J. Rickerby, distric. traffic manager. In proposing the toast of "The Management,” Mr. J. Skinner, goods agent said the institute worked for the betterment of the railways as a whole, aitf urged members to give their hearties: co-operation to the management- $ Replying, Mr. Casey said he had beer an official cf the Auckland brancu 01 the institute. He had sat on both sides of the table and was conversant witn t] the men’s point of view. The day* when the railway department was tl* j ( Cinderella of the public service were now past. To-day members were fe * l>osition to tell people with pride tMthe Railway Department was the vcos- n progressive and the most efficient a vision of he Government service. The only way they could ensun j the future prosperity and efficiency & the service was by co-operation. Mr. Harirs said Parliament was vec 0 proud of the railway service, whK t< was no longer the offspring p' k healthy parents, but was now vigoro and virile. . n As an ex-railwayman, Mr. n said he appreciated the aims 01 men. He realised that the manage® n was doing all it could.
