TAKAPUNA SCHEME OBJECTIONS BY RESIDENTS An artificial storage culvekt alonr Milford Beach as planned by Takapuna engineer, was considered h» the Borough Council and residents on Saturday afternoon. The scheme outlined by Mr. SUnfr fr was that the sewage which is fJS opposite Black Rock should be jiT* prisoned in a concrete culvert piirailf" with the beach, during the flood-tidet and discharged just after ebb-tide far out in Rangitoto Channel. ** At the same time the top of the concrete formation would serve the purpose of a foreshore espUnaS* About two-thirds of the owners 0 properties abutting upon the beacF had acceded to the proposal, and agreed to make the necessary cessions waterfront rights; but among the re! maining third there were some objectors, who went so far as to threaten the institution of legal proceedings L f the Borough Council insisted upon carrying out the scheme.
The council has yet to consider the matter in detail, after first ascertaining the position of the drainage loan and receiving advice from the borough solicitor as to the legal situation. An alternative proposal has been made, that the storage culvert, shall be formed for part of its length along the back portions of the beach proper ties, so that it shall not interfere with the owners’ riparian rights.
