Sydney Butter Goes Up. —The wholesale price of butter was increased in Sydney on Saturday by Id s lb. —A. and N.Z.

Kept Alive Artificially. —A farm lad named Walter Boothe has died at Roanoke, in Virginia. For more than two weeks he had been kept alive by artificial respiration, after he had first ceased to breathe normally.—A. and N.Z.

False Alarm. —The burning of rubbish on the top storey of the Hippodrome Theatre building yesterday afternoon brought the fire brigade and a crowd of sightseers to the spot. The brigade ran up a ladder, to find that a man was in charge of the fire.

Death From Burns. —An inquest was held yesterday into circumstances surrounding the death of Tuku Kingi, a Maori labourer, who died as the result of burns from boiling bitumen at Putaruru on March 30. A verdict was returned that Kingi died from shock and septic absorption. Hamilton Theft Charge. —On remand from Hamilton, John William Ferguson, aged 17, was charged in the Police Court this morning with stealing a motor-cycle valued at £49, belonging to H. V. Burton. He was again remanded, this time for a week, and allowed bail, £25. «

Grafton Bridge Opened. —Traffic was allowed on to Grafton Road Bridge yesterday, the new surface having been passed by Mr. J. Tyler, assistant city engineer. The surface will be maintained by the Neuchatel Asphalte Co., Ltd., the contractors, free of cost, for a period.

Serious Charge Dismissed. —A charge of disposing of the dead body of her child with intent to conceal its birth, against a girl of 22, was dismissed by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. The magistrate made an suppressing names of witnesses as well as the evidence.

Swore at a Policeman. —Arthur Ludwig was decidedly drunk when Constable Baher saw him in Newton Road on Saturday, and advised him to make himself scarce. Ludwig’s wife came along and tried to take him home. Then Ludwig turned round and said something very rude to the constable, which resulted in his being fined £2 in the Police Court this morning.
