A Dress for 30/-

PRIZE OF £2O OFFERED

TO CORRESPONDENTS. “Mary.” The only people Ineligible to compete in the competition are professional dressmakers, their assistants and employees of THE SUN Newspapers, Ltd. “C.A.C.”—The only names published at the conclusion of the competition will be those of the competitors placed by the judges in making their award. “Miss C.”—No, the competition is being run solely by THE SUN. The prize of £2O will be awarded to the person who sends in the best frock that can be made at a total cost of 30s. “Enquirer.”—Of course the frock will remain your own property. The rules only stipulate that the entries shall be at the disposal of THE SUN for one week after the judging has taken place, in order that they may be exhibited. They will then be returned immediately to their owners. “Eve.” Naturally workmanship will be taken into account when the /judging is being done, as also will the quality of the materials which you put into your garment. I certainly should not advise you to curtail so drastically your expenditure on material in order to buy elaborate trimmings. After all, simplicity is the keynote of the mode at the moment, isn’t it? And a well-cut and carefully finished plain garment of good material is sure to look infinitely better than a sketchily expressed creation of inferior fabric, however lavish the supply of trimmings attached to it. “Poppy.”—Rule number 3 states explicity that the frock must be seasonable and suitable for wearing out of doors. Surely a frock of organdie could not be considered seasonable? I am afraid it is impossible for me to advise you as to the material you should select, or as to the style in which you should make up your frock, still a glance through a fashion paper and a careful examination of the wealth of fabrics that are popular at the moment should help you to decide. Why not a simple iittle frock of rep, sedan cloth or kasha? They are all essentially autumn materials. The following shops are SUN advertisers and can supply the required materials: John Court Ltd., Queen Street; Bradstreets Ltd., Karangahape Road; Rendells Ltd., Karanga

hape Road; The House of Flackvon, Karangahape Road; Hart Bros., Queen Street; Farmers’ Trading Co., Hobson Street; Kelleways, Broadway, Newmarket; Potts’ Drapery Store, Broadway, Newmarket; Madame Cretian, 12 Mount Eden Road, Mount Eden; Seotts, Karangahape Road. HOME DRESSMAKING ONLY The competition is confined to amateurs, and professional dressmakers are not eligible.
