THAMES SEWERAGE
NEW SYSTEM COMPLETED SERIOUS INTERFERENCE DISCOVERED ( From, Our Own Correspondent.) THAMES, To-day. The new sewer system which is now finished on the flat area of the town, will come into operation on Wednesday next. This is similar to the installation at Petone, which town is about the same height above the sea, necessitating the use of pumps to raise the sewage so that it can be discharged into the sea. The Thames new system has taken three years to lay down, costing £ 92,000. It Is expected that a further sum will be required to finish a small area on the hills above the town. Some extraordinary finds were made when inspecting the work preparatory to passing it. In one section was found a coke brazier measuring 18 inches high and 15 inches across, which some person had maliciously placed there. In another section two stove gratings were found. Stricter supervision will be needed to prevent such mischief being done.
