CHATELAINES REVIVED
DANCE frock ornaments. Chatelaines are the latest Victorian fejhion to be revived. Many of the newest dance frocks show gold or sil - ver ornamental chains tanging down the front of the skirt, exactly like those worn by t.he good housewife of 50 years ago. The Utter wore them to pretent her keys getting lost. The new chatelaines are far more frivolous affairs. K they have any practical use at all, it is to contain a miniature powder puff In a tiny case, while a lipstick may also be carried In a minute tube. As a rule, however, these new chatelaines are purely decorative, and far too fragile and light to even support a latchkey on the end. Made of fine gold or silver work chain, they may match the wearer’s necklace and bracelet. These gold and silver chatelaines look particularly well with the rather severe mediaeval type of velvet picture frock. For smarter occasions the cl.atelaine girdle is made cf imitation pearls or different varieties of beads.
