BENZINE THEFTS
REIDS SENTENCED
SIX MONTHS’ GAOL
“I don’t know John Reid very well,” said Mr. F. D. McLiver, referring to one of his clients, who was brought up for sentence at this morning’s sitting of the Supreme Court on a charge of the theft of 49 cases of benzine valued at £3B, the property of the Texas Company. “No, I don’t suppose so,” remarked His Honor Mr. Justice Stringer, “He doesn’t appear a very desirable sort of acquaintance.” Mr. McLiver said that he had often represented the other man concerned, George Reid. “He has been continually involved in a series of family troubles which have frequently brought him into court. The last time I appeared for him the magistrate fined both sides £2 each, but up' to the present there has been nothing serious.”
Six months’ gaol each was meted out.
