Golden Hope and Bingen King were in the van, and going along the back the latter was playing the role of pacemaker, with Rua Pere, Golden Hope, Master Councillor, Nelson Tasker, and Rock Hinton following in that order. A little further on Nelson Tasker rushed into the lead, being followed through by Respect, Rock Hinton, and Lady Dunmore. Crossing the top the leader retired, and Rock Hinton showed the way into the straight.
