DAIRY RESEARCH
GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS APPOINTMENTS BEING MADE Pi'ess Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. With regard to the scheme of dairy research drawn up by interested bodies, the Prime Minister says it is proposed to proceed with the appointment of a bacteriologist and chemist at the earliest possible date, so that an attack may be made upon the major research problems during the present year. Pending the erection of the necessary buildings the staff will cooperate with the laboratories at Hawera and Hamilton. For the present they will deal with milk problems and ultimately with a wider range. The adoption of this scheme ushers in a new policy in research. Hitherto the Government has shouldered it all, but the dairy industry will now make a substantial contribution, and members of the Dairy Control Board will form part of the management committee and have a voice in the work. It is estimated that the cost for the first year will not exceed £ 6,000.
