VICTORIAN POLITICS
WHO WILL RULE? PARTY FUSION PROPOSED By Cable. —Press Association..—copyright Reccl. 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. Negotiations are proceeding between the State Nationalists and Country Parties for the formation of a non-Labour Ministry. Little headway has so far been made towards an understanding, but that the Nationalist Party is unhesitatingly determined at present that the Ministry must resign. Members have renounced the leadership of the Premier, Mr. Allan, and indicated that they will not support any new administration led by him. A meeting endorsed the proposal that an attempt should be made to form a Nationalist Ministry under the leadership of Sir William McPherson. A meeting of the Country Party expressed its willingness to examine Sir William McPherson’s proposed legislation and the personnel of his Cabinet. Mr. Allan has expressed willingness to retire from the leadership if that step is necessary to keep the Labour Party from the Treasury benches. —A. and N.Z.
