WON’T TAKE OUT LICENCE

FINES FOR MOTORISTS “Pie has apparently made up his mind that he won’t take out a licence,” said Senior-Sergeant Edwards in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when Charles Logan Pye was charged with driving an unlicensed car and also with not having a driving licence. Complying with the by-laws would have been much cheaper, for the two offences cost Pye £ 4 6s. Having no licence cost William H. Paling £1 12s. Dangerous driving cost Edith Moller £3 2s, and Mary E. C. Patterson £2 2s, while speeding brought a £ 2 fine to Alexander H. Law, half that amount to Ross T. Munro and Thomas Short. Thomas G. Perkins was fined £2 with 19s costs for crossing a railway line when the line was not clear and ordered to pay costs for a second offence of the same nature. Alfred Ruge had an old numberplate on his car two days after the time allowed for reregistration and was fined 10s, with 16s costs. Having no lights at all was the reason for Fred Cleave's and William H. R. Teape’s £2 fines. Having no tail lights cost Joseph W. Bowater, William A. Harrison, Norman A. Naismith and Eric Pa ton 10s each, with 16s costs. For riding a bicycle on the footpath, Adam Campbell was fined 10s, with 13s costs.
