HARRIERS READY

AUCKLAND EVENTS CROSS-COUNTRY HANDICAP CYCLISTS ALSO TRAINING The winter programme to be run by the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will be started on Saturday. when a two-mile steeplechase handicap will be decided, as well as a 75yds handicap, discus-throwing, shotputting and other field events, to be staged on the outer Domain. As further steeplechases are held, form for the Auckland provincial championships will become apparent, and later a team to compete at the New Zealand championships at Christchurch will be selected. The Australian and New Zealand crosscountry championship will be held at Adelaide on August 6. Rose, who won the title at Wellington two years ago, is certain to be sent to Adelaide, and competition for the other places will be eager. Among those to run in the opening event on Saturday will be Gordon Kells, Dominion champion, J. W. Savidan, champion mile and three-mile runner, and a bunch of other capable performers, including the ex-Wellingtonian, G. Gilchrist. Another important winter event will be the provincial amateur cycling road race, which will probably be decided at the same time as the cross-country championship, and will be a prelude to the New Zealand 50-mile road race championship to be decided at Auckland this winter.
