LEADLIGHT WORKERS’ AWARD
To operate for the year commencing May 9, 1927, the new award affecting the" northern district leadlight workers has been filed. The award provides for all journeymen working as lead glaziers and plate-glass cutters not receiving less than 2s 3d an hour. Cementers’ wages are fixed at a minimum of £4 5s a week.
Youths may be employed as cementers. or at other work, but not at lead or glass-cutting at the following minimum rates: —Under' 17 years of age. £1 ss: 17 to 18, £1 10s; 18 to 19, £1 15s; 19 to 20, £2; thereafter the same wages as prescribed for cementers. Not more than two youths may be employed in any one factory or workshop. Registered packages to the number of 2,000,000 pass through London’s head Post Office alone every year: many of these have contents valued at from £5,000 to £IO,OOO.
