HIS MAJESTY’S

“CROOKS, LTD.” “Crooks Limited,’’ which commences at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday, May 7, is a diverting musical farce built up upon the operations of a gang of crooks who have hit upon the ingenious method of increasing their business by setting up as a detective agency. The rivalry between an Ameri - can and a New Zealander for the hand of Valerie Marjoribanks provides unexpected scope for the gang, who are led nominally by the boss, but actually by Lulu the Lady Detective, his daughter. The last part is played by Mr. Trevarthen, whose performance. as hotel porter in “Size Three,” and as Annie Rooney in “Tilly of Tamaki,” will be remembered by all who saw him. Miss Jean Robertson plays the part of Valerie, in which she finds ample scope for the humour portrayed by her in “Tilly of Tamaki.” The music should prove a feature of the play. Original songs have been written by the author in conjunction with Mr. Trevor Sparling, the musical director, and go with a fine swing. The chorus work is in the hands of Madame Baird, late of London, whose reputation is such that no further comment is required.
