THE REGENT

“THE WALTZ DREAM” It is but natural that a film with such a charming title and plot as “The Waltz Dream,” coming to the Regent on Friday next, should have a musical score appropriate in every respect. The picture has captured the very essence of the life of gaiety and the musical spirit that \vas Vienna before the war. There is a wealth of Viennese folk songs and melodies that actually represent the activities in the life of the Viennese and immortalise the various localities of the city and its suburbs. This music was brought over from Berlin and incorporated in the score. For instance there is “Vienna Remains Vienna,” “I Must Go Back to Nussdorf,” “Old St. Stephen’s,” all places dear to the heart of the Viennese and each one involved in the story of the film* In addition to these folk songs supplying the local colour of the film there is the original music of Oscar Strauss’s

operetta, which is used where the production parallels the original story. Another theme which is associated with Viennese life and which is heard in the score is “The Beautiful Blue Danube,” the Johann Strauss waltz popular around the world. MISS ETTA FIELD • Music lovers of Auckland are reminded of the notable musical event that will take place at the New Regent Theatre on Friday next, when Miss Etta Field, one of the most gifted and popular of Auckland’s singers, will make her first appearance since her return from abroad. During her three years in London and Paris, this talented soprano studied under Europe’s leading masters and made a marked impression on the musical world. With characteristic enterprise the Regent has arranged with Miss Field to make her initial appearance at “The Theatre Magnificent” during next week, when the famous Continental film, “The "Waltz Dream,” will be screened with a special musical programme.
