TRYING THEM OUT
A FRENCH MAID’S PLOT NOT SUCCESSFUL A society of “Maids Who "Wish to be Happy in Marriage” has recently been formed in Paris. When one of its fair members becomes engaged, she passes on the news and the rash young man is at once exposed to a perfect barrage of feminine flirtations. The theory is that any suitor who can pass unscathed through this barrage will make a safe and desirable husband. Unfortunately, most of the fiance candidates have proved constant only in their inconstancy. Indeed, when it came to flirting vith a/ pretty girl, many of them hardly needed to be tempted. There are rumours that one or two unregenerate young men, rejected by their first lady loves, have volunteered to make a second experiment with some other fair member of the society. It is understood, however, that these offers have been coldly received. In any case the society is likely to be short-lived. Several of the “maids who want to be happy” realise that they can’t be happy unless they make their fiances happy, too. And perhaps the best way to be sure of a good husband is to flirt with him oneself.
