“BLOWERETTES”
THE “VENUS VAT” HOLDS FIRST ANNUAL DINNER Although the Ancient Order of Froth-blowers provided a special section for women with a special name, the members of the first Women’s (Venus) Vat, who held their first annual dinner at Romano’s Restaurant, London, recently, disdained the title of “Fairy Belles,” and elected to call themselves “Blowerettes.” About one hundred of them were present, all wearing their wristlets and accompanied by Frothblowers in full “regalia.” The chairman, “Grand Hurricane” David Cain, had one lapel of his coat almost entirejy covered with emblems varying from a tankard to a bundleof hops. The “Vat Scrounger" was kept busily employed ail the evening collecting fines, and by ten o’clock the “Oast box” was practically full. Frothblower No. 1, Sir Ah red Fripp, in replying to the toast of “The A.0.F.8.,” said that there were 600 Vats flourishing in the British Isles to-day, with a membership of a third of a million. There were one or two people with a “Worm's eye” view of their movement, hut they had not a ghost of a notion of the warmth of heart and good fellowship to be found in it. Mr. Kirkwood. M.P., who asked the Home Secretary whether he proposed to take steps to have the accounts of the Ancient Order of Frothblowers inspected, had been told by Sir W. Joyn-son-Hicks, in a written reply, that he has no power to inspect the books of this charity.
