SHE WAS UNLUCKY
RACE-WINNINGS STOLEN WOMAN HIT AND ROBBED (Froyn Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday. It is reported that a woman who collected a big dividend at the races was struck and robbed at her home on Saturday. The owner of the house returned from a social function about 11 p.m. and on going into the bedroom of his wife found the contents of a chest of drawers strewn about the floor. On investigating further he found that the linen press had been similarly disturbed and a handbag which had been placed therein was lying open, empty. With difficulty he awakened his wife and questioned her about the occurrence but she was unable to give any coherent details, having received a. blow on the temple which had rendered her unconscious. The woman attended the races during the afternoon and participated in one big dividend. This sum, along with other amounts, was removed from her handbag. The intruder was evidently only in search of cash as watches and other trinkets lying on the dressing-table were not touched. The police are inquiring.
