“EVERYBODY’S ACTING”

COMING NEXT WEEK The Paramount comedy-drama, “Everybody’s Acting,” coming to the Princess and Tivoli next week, offers fresh proof that the more enlightened of our movie directors are adopting the laudable practice of telling the story with as few subtitles as possible. In this production, for example, the story begins in 1908 and ends in 1926. In the old days this lapse of time would have been bridged by the use of some such hackneyed phrase as “Eighteen Years Later.” The director, Marshall Neilan. chose to indicate the change of time through the use of clever makeup on the part of the players. In the opening scenes the role that is later portrayed by Betty Bronson is depicted by an infant of six months. Ford Sterling, Raymond Hitchcock, Henry Walthall, Stuart Holmes and Edward Martlndel, the five foster fathers who adopt the baby, are all young men. When the girl has reached the age of five, there is visual evidence that the fathers have aged slightly. . When the girl is 18, it is easy to tell from the appearance and actions of the five men that they have become much older; Holmes has lost all his hair. Sterling, Hitchcock and Walthall are grey at the temples. Martindel, who in his prime had boasted of curly brown hair, is now the possessor of silver leeks and moustache td'match.
