The by-election for one of the three Scottish Universities’ seats rendered vacant by the death of Sir Henry Craik, resulted: Mr. John Buchan (Con.) .. .. 16,983 Mr. Hugh Guthrie (Labour) . . 2,378 Mr. Guthrie loses his deposit.—A. and N.Z.—Sun. At the last general election the polling for the three Scottish Universities seats was as follows:—Sir Henry Craik (Conservative), 7189; Mr. D. M. Cowan (Liberal), 5,010; Sir George Berry. (Conservative), 3,781; Rev. J. M. Munro (Labour), 1,639 The first three named were elected.
