ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE
SEAMAN FINED When William Palmer, a young seaman of 24, came to New Zealand in the steamer Horatius, he liked it so much that he decided to settle here, and bring his wife and child out from England as soon as he had established himself ashore. His method of changing from sea to shore life, however, was a little un orthodox, and as a result he found himself in the Police Court this morning charged with being absent without leave from his ship. Chief-De.ective Cummings said that as far as could be ascertained Palmer was a strict abstainer and had a good character.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. let him oT with a tine of £ 2 and ordered him to pay 10s court costs.
