A 14,000 CROWD
After the ill-fated tour of England by the New Zealand League team last season, the opening of the new season at Carlaw Park on Saturday was watched in ‘football circles with more than ordinary interest, as being likely to furnish an interesting commentary on the question whether the game had failen in public estimation. If the Auckland Rugby League had any such misgivings, it wisely said nothing about the matter, but the governing body had cause to feel elated on Saturday when, under perfect weather conditions, the Auckland-New Zealand match was staged before an attendance estimated to be in the vicinity of 14,000.
