UNLUCKY TOWN BIRD
There is no doubt that Town Bird won the Woodhey Hack at Awapuni on Thursday fairly and squarely, and yet he had it taken away. The horse was alleged to have gone over on to Waicullus in the concluding stages, hemming t>he latter in on the rails, and thus preventing the best being got out him. In their eagerness to show that they were out to catch the unwary boys who slip, the committee reversed the placings as between the first and second horses. This appeared to be somewhat harsh, for very few on the course knew that there was anything in the wind until the decision was announced. Perhaps the officials overlooked the fact that Waicullus was a beaten horse when the slightest trouble occurred.
